Cultural Connection
Fall 2022 ~ Group Project
Across every Indigenous culture you will find commonalities between their appreciation for land preservation, agriculture, the spiritual connection between the Earth and the Sky, and generational education all represented in various ways through architectural openings, nodes of fire, wind, earth, and water, and even by the organization of their sites. This group project explores the cohabiting of man and nature through planning that is in accordance with balance and different generations. It was important to understand several Indigenous cultures as a means to influence the design of a place that people could relate to. Accents of representation have been added such as outdoor gathering spaces, traditional green spaces, and water and fire elements to create an environment that fits the targeted demographic of indigenous individuals transitioning to urban living. The site encompasses access to transportation and public services, while taking into account safety and accessibility. A mixture of housing options have been given (permanent resident owned units and transitional units that are affordable for homeless individuals transitioning. The organic circulation, meditation paths, personal space, and transitional spaces assist in social interaction and use design to inspire transition, growth, and use within the community.
