Rio Grande Food Project
Innovation & Inclusion
Spring 2022

The Rio Grande Food Project provides an assortment of public services and distributes over 54,000 lbs. of food monthly to individuals experiencing food insecurity in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The proposed Rio Grande Food Project location is an innovative and inclusive ecosystem that strives to improve individual circumstances and reduce food insecurity. Nutrition education, public resources, in house grocery store, and on-site gardens create a place of relevance and allow guests to connect with resources and build relationships within their own community. The addition of the grocery store environment contributes to the empowerment and dignity gained when given the ability to make choices and preferences that satisfy individual health. Using strategies of technology and universal design, the site addresses sustainability, equitable use, and inclusion through user space, accessibility, systems, nature, food preference, age, gender, and ethnicity.
